PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Nka Ikem Esit is committed to the educational development of Efiks and other minorities. Humanitarianism is woven into the fabric of Nka Ikem Esit Charitable Organization, Inc. The chapter has consistently designed and executed impactful outreach projects aimed at improving the quality of life for vulnerable populations in both Nigeria and the United States. These efforts reflect a deep commitment to dignity, empowerment, and compassion.

We understands that sustainable impact requires more than donations — it demands empowerment. The chapter has intentionally developed and supported programs that promote economic independence, vocational readiness, and access to opportunity, especially for underserved communities in Nigeria and the United States.

Empowerment Through Education

The chapter provided substantial donations of furniture and school supplies to Citizens Academy in Calabar, including desks, chairs, uniforms, sandals, backpacks, and clothing for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.  The organization’s donations to Citizens Academy in Calabar are more than charitable — they are economic.   The association has helped remove financial barriers for dozens of families and kept children in school — setting them on paths to future employment and productivity.

Vocational Partnerships and Community Collaboration

Through its partnerships with multicultural and faith-based organizations, such as Agape Word Center Church International, the chapter has contributed directly to community-building and entrepreneurship. These collaborations create spaces where immigrant and minority families can access services, support, and economic opportunity.

For many years, Nka Ikem Esit has believed that education is the key to unlocking brighter futures and building lasting economic empowerment. Through a scholarship program that spanned 10 remarkable years, we proudly supported low-income students on their journey to completing high school. Education remains at the heart of our mission, and the timeline below celebrates the milestones and initiatives that reflect our ongoing commitment to learning and opportunity.

The organization adopted the Bethany AME Church in Capital Heights, Maryland (Reverend David Darryl Robinson, Senior Pastor – Bethany A. M. E. Church, 1014 Iago Ave, Capitol Heights, Maryland). NKA organized and sponsored a Back-to-School and Book-a-thon event in August 2011. Supplies and books were distributed to pre-school, elementary, middle and high school students in the church and neighborhood. Over 250 books were obtained free from The Baltimore Reads Organization book outlet for this event.

Books from Baltimore Reads Donated

Books from the Baltimore Reads, a non-profit organization, has been distributed to children at each of the 4 community health fairs sponsored by the organization in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2013

Academic Grant

In 2004, the chapter awarded a 3-year college grant to a student at Frostburg State University, ensuring she remained in school following the sudden death of her father.

These interventions reflect the chapter’s belief that education is the first step toward self-sufficiency — especially for girls and youth in at-risk environments.
