President’s Message

President’s Message

Nka PresidentIn July 1993, a group of Efik indigenes residing in the Washington DC area came together with a shared vision to serve their local community in the DVC metropolis and their homeland in Calabar, Nigeria. The entity which emerged from that meeting was aptly named “Nka Ikem Esit” meaning “group of like-minded people” to embody their mutual agreement about the organization’s purpose.

Twenty years later, I am pleased to report that Nka Ikem Esit remains true to the vision of its founders. As a charitable organization, NKA Ikem Esit has given college scholarships, finished and furnished a maternal unit waiting room and provides medical supplies to hospitals in Calabar at least twice a year. Here in the DC metropolis, NKA Ikem Esit organizes health fairs in the Langley Park area of Maryland, supports book fairs and back-to-school activities for needy children, and contributes to charitable activities in our “adopted” church in Capital Heights.

Nka Ikem Esit is an association of dedicated dues-paying members. This means donations to the organization are applied directly to our community projects. We are a non-profit entity and rely solely on the goodwill of our members and donors to finance our community projects. I appeal to you to donate generously to enable NKA continue with the good works to impact lives and make a difference. We believe in the words of Mary Anne Radmacher that “…as we work to create light for others, we naturally light our own way.”

Please visit our site often to learn more about our activities in the community.
We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Liz Ana Trimnell
President
